II. OLD ICS ARCHIVE (please note that these pages are no longer maintained.)
1. If you would like basic information on cello-related topics, see the "Cello Introduction" section at http://cello.org/Cello_Introduction/Cello_Introduction.html

2. The ICS Library at http://cello.org/Libraries/Libraries.html includes a reference section. Many members have found the online version of the "Violoncello Repertoire: Selected Syllabus" http://cello.org/Libraries/references/syllabus.html to be very useful in selecting new pieces to study or perform. ICS is fortunate to have a real music librarian, Sarah Dorsey at sbdorsey@iris.uncg.edu, who is willing to help you. Please be sure to try all other resources before posing clearly state questions to her.

3. The section "Cellists' Gateway to the Internet" at http://cello.org/Other_Resources/Other_Resources.html was specifically designed to interface cellists to vast resources of music and cello-related information beyond the boundaries of the ICS website. For more current information please see the categories at http://cello.org

III. For human interaction, check out the ICS Forum at http://www.cello.org/letstalk.htm . The ICS Hosts, several members who represent the different facets of the cello world, have volunteered to help you with your cello related questions. You can email them directly at hosts@cello.org

Anyone is welcome to post an inquiry to our membership and the global Internet community by way of the official ICS message boards at http://pub1.ezboard.com/bcellofun.html

ICS Forums/Message Boards:
Cello Chat for general discussion
Young Cellists
Cellists-by-Night
Instruments and Equipment
Get a Job!
Events and Camps

IV. The ICS Membership Registry at http://cello.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=CelloPage allows you to search for cellists by their name, location or other criteria.

V. If you have questions on string instruments or related equipment, please contact our violin maker volunteer Todd French at tfrenchh@aol.com or see the "Instruments and Equipment" message board at http://pub1.ezboard.com/bcellofun.html

VI. The Internet is the fastest growing resource for all kinds of instant information including data on music and cello-related subjects. If you cannot find it on our website, try searching using http://google.com

VII. 90% of the time your questions can be more quickly answered by the teachers, musicians, luthiers and colleagues that you work with every day or that live in your area. The vast, and ever-expanding resources of the Internet will never equal the interactive and custom nature of face-to-face dialogue.

VIII. The most comprehensive and quality information is still and will be for a long time accessible through our local music libraries. Check out the New Groves Dictionary of Music and other music reference books, look on record jackets and liner notes for more anecdotal information, use the Music Index and RILM indices to find more current information in journal articles and research documents, and if necessary consider using inter-library loan to obtain a rare book or score. Do not hesitate to ask the librarians for help!
