Hubert Varron is a well-known French cellist, born in Paris on June 23, 1933.
He began studying the cello at the age of seven. When he was thirteen, he won the first prize of the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris. In 1950, at the age of 17, M. Varron won Geneva's concours first prize. That same year he was awarded Prague's Rostropovitch concours first prize.
From 1951 until 1955, Hubert Varron performed as 1st cellist at the Pasdeloup Concert Association. Then in 1955 he became the first cellist (solo) of the National Paris Opera Orchestra, and continued in that position 37 years, until 1992.
Monsieur Varron has also performed in movie scores, working a lot with Georges Delerue, Vladimir Cosma, Michel Legrand and Francis Lai. On the album of the French movie "Diva" (by Beinex, music of Cosma), he performed two cello solos. He has also played for well-known singers such as Charles Trenet, Barbara Striesand, Edith Piaf, The Eurythmics, etc...
Today, at the age of 63, he continues an active performing career.
