Description:
Cuarteto Latinoamericano, nominated for two Grammy awards, is an authoritative voice in Latin American classical music. The three Bitran brothers, Saul and Aron, violinists, Alvaro cellist, and Javier Montiel, violist, have become international ambassadors of their repertoire, touring extensively in Europe, North and South America, New Zealand and Israel. The Cuarteto Latinoamericano performs the classical and contemporary repertoire and has specialized in performing the works of composers from the Americas . They premiere many new works each season and have received three CMA/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming. Now celebrating their 23rd season, this award winning string quartet from Mexico has been in residence at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh since 1987. The Cuarteto is credited in Mexico with the emergence of a new generation of string players, and as a recognition for its distinguished career it has just been awarded a substantial grant from Mexico’s National Culture Fund,. Recent residencies have included some of the world main festivals, universities and music centers such as Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Kennedy Center in Washington, Ravinia Festival, Mainly Mozart in San Diego, Dartington Summer School in England,, Dartmouth College, Ojai Festival in California, San Miguel de Allende, Cornell University, Tel Aviv University , New Zealand Festival, etc. The Cuarteto has performed as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Seattle Symphony, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony, the National Arts Center Orchestra in Canada, the Orquesta Sinfónica Simon Bolivar in Venezuela and the National Symphony in Mexico, among other orchestras.
